Oh hey! I’m Brenda Shaughnessy, the owner of Summit Coaching & Training. I look forward to sharing some of my stories and I hope you enjoy getting to know me a bit better.

Exercise has always been my passion, and after suffering some severe injuries in 2015 and overcoming the challenges associated with them, I decided I needed to make some changes in my life. I wanted to turn my passion into my career and help people stay physically active, fit, and healthy. So in 2017, I became a Personal Trainer and Running Coach. My niches are coaching trail runners and ultramarathoners, strength training for runners, injury recovery and rehab, and strength training as we age to stay strong and independent.

Over the past couple of years, my business has been growing steadily, and I’m almost at full capacity. I’m developing a strong reputation in the trail running and ultra-marathon community, as well as in the injury rehab market, and my athletes are my billboards.

I encourage and inspire my athletes to set goals that scare them, and then help them to achieve those goals. It’s rewarding to see them accomplish things they didn’t know or believe were possible for them. I love being with them every week, witnessing the changes and recording the improvements. Empowering my athletes to come together as a team and support each other fills me with immense satisfaction.

The most satisfying part of running my business is that I am pursuing and building my dream, and measuring success by my yardstick. It’s definitely more work than being an employee of a company, but being my own boss gives me control over my schedule and my life, and I wouldn’t change it for the world! I attribute my success to my perseverance and drive, as I believe nothing worth achieving comes easy. It’s in the work and the struggle that we find the meaning and the magic.

As an individual, what sets me apart is my experience with injuries and the different types of challenges that come with them, my ability to do really hard things, that I always use scientifically-backed principles, and that I never settle for anything less than my best effort. I am a CSEP Certified Personal Trainer, which is considered the gold standard of personal training certifications in Canada. I am also a NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist, which gives me the training to help people bridge the gap between physio and "just doing life".

When I am not assisting clients to achieve their fitness goals, I love lifting weights (obviously!), running, snowshoeing, hiking, reading, yoga, disc golf, and walking my dogs.

I have enjoyed sharing my story about the things which matter to me and how they influence the way I do business. If you or someone you know could benefit from my expertise as a Personal Trainer and Running Coach in St. Albert, Alberta, I invite you to get in touch.
